In 1966, the MACV Recondo School was established to train Special Forces Units in long-range recon tactics and commando operations. Graduates of the school were capable of performing many duties including infiltrating enemy-controlled territory for long periods of time without being re-supplied. These highly skilled graduates were called Recondos; and they exemplified courage and confidence. Over three decades later, the spirit of this school and its graduates is carried on in the SOG X-42 Recondo which proudly bears the name. The X-42 Recondo combines SOG technology with state-of-the-art materials for a truly extreme configuration designed to meet the many challenges of today?s world.A Spencer Frazer original design, the X-42 Recondo is an evolution of the original, mission-proven SOG Bowie. It features geometrically faceted grind lines that focus power on the edge and tip of its satin finished blade. Its glass-reinforced Zytel handle features a raised diamond texture for a non-slip grip even in inclement weather. The contour of the handle is designed to provide maximum gripping power while at the same time, be able to index quickly and easily in low-light environments. The X-42 Recondos texture and shape also allow it to be moved quickly from front to reverse gripping positions. The BG-42 steel is extremely tough and durable and can be cryogenically hardened to a Rockwell of 64. Previous to this, BG-42, the ultimate steel, had not really found its way into production knives due to its high cost and difficulty to work. SOG was the first production knife manufacturer to offer this very high quality exotic steel at an affordable price.The X-42 Recondo is available with black TiNi SOG Hardcased coatings for low-reflectivity and enhanced edge holding. Both versions come standard with a waterproof Kydex sheath. SOGs new Kydex sheaths have been carefully thought out to exceed all previous standards.
